Now it’s so easy to spot a dogless doglover approaching; their heart yearning for a pat, a snuggle, a lick. Some small children are frightened, and others are so comfortable that they may have been raised by wolves.
But it’s the old folks Hannah visits in the seniors’ residence who are truly filled by her presence. Hannah doesn’t have that lab-like enthusiasm, and I hunch that it’s more work than joy for her to greet each person who gathers for our weekly visit. She does so, in service, and it fills their hearts. And mine.
