Lola & Finnegan's Wheat Free Dog Treats Beef Jerky
Size shown below
I stopped off at Winners for a bit the other day and lo and behold, there were new dog treats!
I love buying dog treats because I feel like I'm spoiling my dogs (and maybe they'll listen to me more)!
I saw these beef jerky treats and was a bit skeptical but I checked out the ingredients and they were fine.
I was especially impressed with the fact that the top two ingredients are beef heart and beef lung. The higher up in the body the meat is, the better it is!
These treats are super easy to rip into tiny pieces for little mouths and all three of my dogs like them. (Max actually doesn't like PetBotanics Chicken treats! I was amazed.)
All natural, made with real beef.
Made with 80% certified USDA beef hearts and lungs.
Less than 6 calories per treat.
Made in the USA.
Ingredients:
Beef Lungs, Beef Hearts, Molasses, Soy Grits, Dextrose, Vegetable Glycerin, Chicory Syrup, Salt, Cultured Whey, Chondroitin Sulfate, Glucosamine Hydrochloride, Natural Flavoring, Mixed Tocopherols (Vitamin E), Oil of Garlic.

This is Sascha the standard poodle, he's eight years old. He is co-owned with my sister who comes back from the Arctic every four months and then Sascha is hers for four months.
Of course we miss him during that time but he is never far away. He is the most calm and lovely dog in the world except when it comes to ducks. He doesn't swim though.
The other dog is Betty, my son Carl's dog. She's about a year and a half now. She is a Presa Canario mixed with something, but we're not sure what. She looks kind of scary but she is the sweetest dog in the world, just a bit bouncy still. It took a while for her to learn not to bug Sascha but now they get along quite well. The last picture is them together waiting for me to get off the computer and go for a walk.

DO NOT BUY: VitaLife Duck Tenders
Hey guys, I recently got an e-mail from Jane about these VitaLife Duck Tenders found in Costco, Wal-Mart and Superstore.
Read the article here!
These dog treats are made and checked in China, not Canada or the States (even though it says on the bag that they have) and have allegedly caused the death of many little canines.
We do use these treats, as we bought a big bag from Costco, but we only feed them to Hannah and watch her chew them well.
We will not be buying these again!

Barking mad
Hey guys, do any of your dogs have a barking problem?
Max sure does and I'm coming up short of ideas to dissuade him.
He barks at people walking down the street and 'strange noises' like keys.
I've been telling him no bark and hush, and he'll eventually stop, but I'd rather he knew how to stop at a command.
Thoughts?

Kong® Satellite
Pictures below!
Guess what was on sale at Petsmart!
The Kong® Satellite food dispensing toy. I've read a couple reviews on this toy and it looked fun and challenging for Max so I thought I'd give it a try, plus it was 50% off!
We got the small/medium size which is about 9 inches across. Had the larger one been in stock I would have bought one for Abby when she grows up.
The Kong Satellite looks like, well, a satellite station (sort of) and is topped by a blue/clear tinted piece of plastic. Cleaning this toy looks difficult because I don't think that the two pieces can come apart.
There is a hole on the top of the Satellite and one on each arm, situated on the top, bottom or side.
Check out the Kong website.
Max has found two ways to get his food. Number one is to flip the toy upside down and then use his paw to move the arms in a circular motion (like if your arms were on a treadmill) and number two, to pick up an arm in his mouth and then drop the toy so food bounces out (he learned this with the Squirrel).

OurPets® Atomic Treat Ball™
Photos below!
I've been looking for this ball for quite a while. OurPets also makes the quite well known Buster Cube which is a more difficult version of a treat ball. In fact, the Buster Cube, like it's name, is a cube.
However this on a scale of 1 - 3 difficulty is a 1.
The outside of this ball is made of hard blue plastic, and it is not even a ball, but an atom shaped piece of plastic hence the name 'atomic'.
I tried this ball out on Max with less treats in it because I thought that the hole would make things too easy; it's about a loonie size. I was wrong. He was confused because it didn't roll properly- the pieces of plastic and the extra chambers make rolling more of a challenge.
Max can pick the Atomic Treat Ball up with his big canine teeth and drop it on the ground. He tried licking the hole in hopes treats would fall out but no luck.
All in all, I'd say this was a good buy!
$13.99 on Amazon
Maybe if I lick this some will fall out? |

Guest blog #3
I could never anticipated the joy of sharing each of our dogs… fuzzy pup, feisty terrier, and gentle wary shepherd… with others.
Now it’s so easy to spot a dogless doglover approaching; their heart yearning for a pat, a snuggle, a lick. Some small children are frightened, and others are so comfortable that they may have been raised by wolves.
But it’s the old folks Hannah visits in the seniors’ residence who are truly filled by her presence. Hannah doesn’t have that lab-like enthusiasm, and I hunch that it’s more work than joy for her to greet each person who gathers for our weekly visit. She does so, in service, and it fills their hearts. And mine.

Zuke's® Skinny Bakes™ Pumpkin 'n Sweet Potato Crunch
First of all, these treats smell amazing. They smell like a mix of banana and sweet potato and pumpkin.
All our dogs love Zuke's mini naturals so I thought that I'd try out the Skinny Bakes and neither I nor them are disappointed.
The treats are really easy to break apart if your dog is smaller and it's about $6.99 for 12 oz.
Check out the Zuke's store here: https://www.zukes.com.

JW® Hol-ee® Treat Ball
I went out yesterday and stopped by Bosleys just to look around, when I saw the Hol-ee Treat Ball. I've seen reviews of this product on YouTube and so I decided to try it out on Max and Abby.
The outside of the ball is covered in blue rubber, to stop the plastic inside from touching hardwood or tile floors and making noise. It didn't work very well on our tile, so if you're looking for a no-noise ball, I do not suggest this.
Now, inside the ball are two chambers. One, a cylindrical tube for dropping food into and a second outside ball that rotates for the treats to fall out of.
The actual hole that the treats come out of is about the size of two dimes pressed side by side. I've covered one hole with tape to make it more difficult for Max.
Max liked it, just like he loves all food related items but he was slightly confused and would pick up the ball by a rubber hole and then drop it on the floor like he does the Busy Buddy Squirrel; hence the noise.
This toy was $17.99 at Bosleys.

‘Nother guest blog from Ringu's Mom
I used to say that I’d never let a dog lick my face, sleep in my bedroom, snooze in my bed. I said I’d never let my dog off-leash where it wasn’t permitted.
That I’d never talk in that high squeaky (“I wuv you!) doggy voice, and that I’d not accept less than full obedience to my commands.
That I’d never let my dogs bark enough to bother the neighbours, that I’d never leave my dogs too long in the car on a hot day, or miss picking up a poo.
Never say “never”.

Abby update: 10 weeks
Abby turned 10 weeks today (wednesday) and she's now learning what 'kisses' means!
We're still working on her 'leave it', but she knows 'sit' and we're teaching her that she gets food in the 'crate'.
P.S. They can't get into my room anymore :)
That's all for now! Take care!

Featured Pet: Ellie
Featured Pet runs once a week, so come back and see someone new!
Thanks to David for sending Ellie's story in for Featured Pets!
This is Ellie!
Ellie is from a pet store in Taiwan. I got her when she was nearly three months old. Born February 10th, that makes her 16 weeks old, almost four months.
Originally we thought she was a miniature dachshund. In fact, that's what we were told when we purchased her. However, she's gotten quite big since, so we're pretty sure she's a standard.
Ellie has a really laid back attitude, she only barks when she's left in her kennel at night and she's pretty much okay with anything as long as it doesn't hurt.
For example, she isn't afraid of loud noises or people/animals. I think it's because of the hectic pet shop environment she used to be in.
Devoting much of her time to laying in the sun, she loves to cuddle and always enjoys sleeping on laps.
She finally received her third vaccination a few days ago. This will allow her to venture out into the wild without fear of worms and fleas and such. This means she can be in contact with other dogs
